The d3wrestle.com/WWSport.com Wrestler of the Week is Zak Andrews of Delaware Valley. The 2011 All-American wrestled twice last week, picking up bonus point wins in each match. On Friday, he wrestled against d3wrestle.com Contender Andre Berry of Cortland, putting up a 19-4 tech fall. The next day, the Aggies took on Ithaca, and Andrews pinned two-time returning NCAA runner-up Jeremy Stierly in 1:01. Andrews is ranked 2nd in the NWCA rankings at 149 lbs. and 3rd in the d3wrestle.com Rankings that came out before the match with Stierly.
Andrews, a senior from Emmaus, Pennsylvania, is now 23-2 on the season and is tied for 4th all time in wins at Delaware Valley with 109. Last season, he overcame a first round loss to the eventual champ to finish in 5th place at the NCAA Championships. After a tough team loss to Shippensburg Wednesday night, Andrews will be honored at Delaware Valley’s Senior Night tonight against East Stroudsburg.
when will new d3 ranking come out?
Should be Sean Messina from hunter. He dominated Albright racking up over three minutes of riding time
Favia and Thomson will be a great match today. I think Favia will queeeze it out but we ahve been looking forward to it. Other great matches also going on in this tri meet in Maryland.
good job zak. THE HARDEST WORKING WRESTLER i have ever seen
Padistrict1,
You think one match should determine the WOTW? Messina beat one ranked wrestler by one point. Andrews absolutely shut down a “contender” and pinned a NCAA finalist. That is a WOTW.
@themann. rankings come on Wednesday. same as always you clown
