The first d3wrestle.com/WWSport.com Wrestler of the Week for 2008-2009 is freshman Seth Ecker of Ithaca College. The freshman from Pottstown, Pennsylvania, opened his career with a 125 lb. title at the Ithaca Invitational this past weekend. The 125 lb. weight class featured 2008 All-American and Ithaca teammate Jon Gregory who was ranked 6th in the initial d3wrestle.com rankings. Also in the tournament was d3wrestle.com Contender Peppy Cabrera of Cortland along with New York state champ Brian Borst, also of Cortland. Ecker pinned both the #2 seed Cabrera and the #3 seed Christensen of NYU before dispatching Borst 16-1 in a finals matchup of freshman. Borst had upset Gregory on his way to the final. Ecker now sits at 5-0 on the year with three falls and two technical falls.
Ecker came to Ithaca from Pottstown High School in Pennsylvania. He was a three time AA state placewinner with finishes of 8th, 7th, and 3rd his last three years in high school. ecker was also named Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference Wrestler of the Week for his efforts at Ithaca.

Not surprising about Ecker. He’s a state placer in PA. Gregory wont be starting at Ithaca….prediction: Ecker places in top three this year at the NCAA’s along with Erdman from E-town. Two tough PA boys.
Floodeen,Rush,Sheets,Oster and Kist. Pretty bold statement to expect both of them to beat those 5. What tough tournaments do those two enter this year to gauge their ability?
I know Ithaca will be at the Body Bar in two weeks. That is a pretty tough tourney. Ithaca as team looks tough this year and young. Any chance they could break top five as a team this year at the NCAA’s?
