UPDATE: Official Gettysburg Release HERE

The official announcement should be coming from the school in the next day or so, but I wanted to announce that I (Andy Vogel) will be the new head wrestling coach at Gettysburg College starting on August 13th. I will continue to maintain and update d3wrestle.com while coaching the Bullets. Gettysburg returns national qualifiers Matt Shank and Andrew Goldstein, who will look to defend their Centennial Conference championships in 2007-2008.

  1. Coach Vogel –

I wanted to say congratulations on becomming the coach at gettysburg. Im not sure if you will remember me, i was the heavyweight at gettysburg when you were a senior. I just graduated this year from gettysburg, and was the only senior on the team last year. You have been left with Matt and Andrew who both are extremely good wrestlers and work together all the time. One major issue that troy had with the program was recruiting wrestlers, and getting them to commit to the program and stay committed all four years. Alot of it has to do with the lack of “blue collar” people in gettysburg, and alot of it has to do with keeping the season fun. I was friends with alot of the kids who quit and that was the main reason, that it wasnt fun for them anymore. I think that if you can keep the season fun, and give the kids who are fully committed to the program reasons to believe that the program is going in the positive direction that you can really have alot of sucess there. One other thing that you may not be aware of is that there are alot of talented kids walking around the campus that quit, mainly ray cottiers and james stevenson who could be really competitve at this level but got bored with wrestling. Hopefully the addittion of a new coach will bring their fire back and get them out for the team.

I really wish you alot of luck and hope that your dedication to wrestling will traslate to sucess in gettysburg. I look forward to meeting you over alumni weekend and congrats again!

    Mike Pattanite
