UPDATE: Rankings #6 Color Coded by Region

26 wrestlers appear at each weight in the d3wrestle.com Rankings. There is a Top Ten and then eight Contenders and eight Honorable Mention.

Top Ten Wrestlers by Region

NE E ME C MW W
12 15 18 21 21 13

Total Wrestlers Appearing by Region

NE E ME C MW W
41 44 56 46 47 26

Weights with fewer than three wrestlers appearing
West 149 – 1
Northeast 149 – 2
West 157 – 2
Central 165 – 2
West 174 – 2
West 184 -2
This means that if the regionals were this week, seven wrestlers not listed anywhere in the d3wrestle.com rankings would qualify for the NCAA Championships. Five of them would be from the West Region.

A lot will change between now and the last weekend in February, but this is where things stand as of today.

  1. The West region has been weak since the inception of this new regional schema. In spite of the fact that numerous coaches have collectively and individually pointed out the problems with the distribution of teams within regions, nothing has changed. Midwest region got totally shafted the first year and is still one of the most unfairly put-together regions. It’s time to review and revise the unbalanced regions!

  2. The system was designed so that teams like Wartburg and Augsburg and continue to compete in the team race! Doesn’t any find it strange that these are the only two teams to have won a national title in over 15 years!!?? Even the odds for every region and improve our sport! It’s the right thing to do!!
