  1. I realize these you guys did the best you could with these, and they are respectable, but what about Isaac Roberson from Lakeland at 149? He beat Virgil Pope the week before regionals, then barely lost to him the next week. Not even an honorable mention?

  2. My school blocked the link to the rankings. Does someone wanna be a pal and copy/paste them onto their comment? Too impatient to wait to go home and look at them

  3. 174 “Honorable Mention” Neivert/Brockport
    beat “Contender” Broderick/TCNJ
at the York College “Spartan Invitational”
    8-3

  4. Thanks so much for taking the time to put these rankings together. It is enjoyable to follow all the young men who work so hard at the oldest and greatest sport.

  5. While I really do enjoy these rankings and I am excited to read them, I think they should wait until teams send in their potential lineups to d3wrestle to allow for weight changes and transfers. That is my only gripe, I love the site and think what Andy is doing is Awesome. Keep up the great work

  6. Wrestling coach I agree, but as a DIII coach myself, it gives us something to talk about. Gets everyone excited about the upcoming season. I can’t wait.

  7. Barnett was never close to a legitimate 149lb wrestler last year. TCNJ coaches convinced him to wrestle 141. He was starving himself to get to that weight. He did no strength training, only light weight and high reps and once his muscle mass and strength we’re gone in the cut to 141 he had absolutely nothing at 149. It was a nightmare of a season!

  8. Ranking wrestlers right now is a very tough job and a very inexact science. It is unavoidable that some wrestlers have legitimate claims to be ranked higher than they are. If you feel you got the shaft, use it as an added incentive to go out and prove yourself where it counts, on the mat.

  9. rankings do not mean anything until the end of the season when it is time to seed for the national tournament. great job on these rankings andy, thanks for the all the work you put forth on this site

  10. Wrestlesmart,

Although you try to sound like you an inkling of an idea of what you are talking about, in terms of the Barnett situation, you do not. Don’t be one of those message boards posters, that writes soley on “rumors”. Not only did you look foolish with your post, but you put a negative light on Barnett too. He is an unbelievable kid/wrestler, who simply hit some rough spots last winter. Who im sure has put more time in on the mat and the weight room in a week, than you have in the last 20 years.
PS… he sure looked like a big 141 pounder, wonder how that happens with “no strength training”

  11. I am salivating for the start of the year. This kind of stuff is exciting and, although people say rankings mean nothing, I beg to differ. This is incentive building for the wrestlers and teams. It also allows fans like myself to get a look at some of the names so I know who to follow this year. Great job!!!

  12. great discussion, cant wait for the season to start, I predict olivet will surprise alot of folks this season with their level of intensity, focus and the overall improvement of some of their unranked wrestlers, good luck to all! ATW

  13. Lions 2010…I’m we’ll aware of Barnett’s problems last year. He’s my nephew and I’ve probably seen him wrestle over 600 matches You probably didn’t know that he came down with mono his freshman year 3 days into college. He weighed around 160-63 before he got sick His intention was to wrestle 149…when the coaches finally saw him he was under 148lbs. TCNJ talked him into wrestling 141 as a freshman. He was sickly and eventually went back to 149. He wrestled 112,125,135 and 140 in High School. No way he should have been a 140 lb wrestler as a college junior.
Yes he was ripped but he had no strength because the TCNJ coaches did not want him lifting heavy weights to control his muscle mass and make it easier for him to make weight.
There was a reason he only wrestled 20+ matches as a junior because he was so uncomfortable at the weight. He ballooned after every match 10-12 lbs Tournaments…he only wrestled a couple he would be 155+. and then could not drop the weight for a weekday match or even the following weekend. He was just too sucked out to perform at a high level all year.
John…if you read this post…this is the last hurrah! Wrestle tough…Wrestle smart…and leave it all on the mat….
    Sorry for the long post

  14. THIS YEARS 149 METRO CONF. WRESTLERS,

    AGJABE-DELVAL
    DATTOLO-WILKES
    MARTINO-NYU
    BOYER-ETOWN
    TOLBERT-YORK
    ?????-KINGS
    ?????-SCRANTON

THIS WILL BE ONE HECK OF A WEIGHT CLASS!!!

  15. Metrofan

Yep….. 149 is stacking up like a real tough weight this year in the Metro Conf. No easy walk for any wrestler there. Should be some great matches throughout the season. I can’t wait!

  16. HWT – Sacco and Broderick being ranked above Connell – national tourny appearances of 0-2 are heavier than a head to head win and a season tourney championship over?

  17. I’m pretty sure Barnett did not wrestle anyone from Del Val last year. He did wrestle Fava in high school at the states his junior year and lost 3-1. Ajabe did beat Stillo 4-3. Ajabe is preseason ranked 7th at 149 and rightfully so.

  18. stillo beat barnett 3-2
    boyer beat stillo by fall
    dattolo beat barnett 7-6
    agjabe beat stillo 4-3
    stillo beat dattolo 5-3

  19. At the end of February many of you wrestling fans will be wondering where in the world did ‘THAT KID FROM SPRINGFIELD COLLEGE come from…his name RON ‘THE SANDMAN’ FUSCO….THE ULTIMATE ‘CLOSER’ will be the HEAVYWEIGHT for the Springfield College Wrestling Pride…..The Pride should be very tough in this season’s New England Conference as it returns 8 starters from last years 2nd place finish @ the conference tournament…..The Pride will be lead by their BIG MAN……last season Ron showed great promice and is dedicated to having a big season…..Ron’s teammate; former college hoops player turned wrestler DAN “THE MEAT MAN’ ATTICKINSON” will certainly push Ron in the room every day…..Big Ron will ‘DO WORK’ this year…HE NICE!!!! GO PRIDE…..

  20. A MAJOR LEAGUE shoutout for Springfied College rising Senior Wrestling Captain, 157 pounder John “Archie” Archambeau, a Ludlow, Mass native and 2009-2010 Academic All-American.
“Archie” is the ultimate student-athlete who has gone above and beyond to attain his education while competing in college wrestling…what makes “Archie” so special is that He also serves in the National Guard and has been serving our country in the Middle East since May.
I’m confident that I speak for all of the members of the Springfield College Wrestling Family as well as the entire New England Wrestling Community and ALL PATRIOTIC AMERICANS that we are very proud of the mission John Archambeau and his fellow soldiers are on. John’s honor, sacrifice, and duty shouldn’t go unoticed.
It is my understanding that “Archie” is due to return to the Springfield Campus in a few weeks from his tour of duty. I encourage all of you to go out of your way to go up to John when you see him on campus or at a wrestling match this season and give him a big hug and tell him you love him….thank him for his service to our country.
“Archie” I know your family misses you dearly, as do your friends, coaches, and teammates….get home soon, get home safe…..God Bless You!!!
If there are any other John “Archie” Archambeau’s out there I’d like to see you recognized as well and I thank you as well.
    GO PRIDE…..
