  1. Agree with “alls fair” . With the money they throw at their athletes, wouldn’t be hard for any program to win a national title. Kids in their line up get packages that out-compete D1 schools offerings.
BTW, wartburg#1 if you can’t come up with a post that’s better than a 4th grader’s, save your garbage for someone as ignorant as you are!

  2. Wartburg #1, I know you are just defending your team but commaaaaan man. $46,000 a year? They obviously have a little “extra support”

  3. I provide 4th grade rebuttals for 4th grade “detective” work. You can continue to show your ignorance by saying that “anyone could win with the money they throw at their athletes.” Any individual or team that wins at the highest level truly understands the work that goes into putting yourself in that position. It’s not by chance or coincidence that they are a contender for a National Championship year after year. They also understand that you are going to get arrows in your back if you are in the front of the pack (can 4th graders rhyme this well?!). Best of luck to all the teams for an exciting and safe wrestling season! Go Wartburg!

  4. Wartburg #1 is absolutely correct. Unless you have been at the top you don’t really understand how hard it is to win a national championship and continue to do so year after year. Sure, Wartburg recruits great wrestlers, but would you pick Wartburg or would you pick Dubuque? It’s an easy answer. Wartburg gets the best because they have been to the top before, have an excellent coaching staff, and develop kids better than any other program in D3 wrestling. Wrestlers go there because they know they have a legitimate shot at winning. NOT because they get great financial aid. If they cared a lot about the price, they would go somewhere else I would assume.

  5. Also helps out with the hard work when you bring in ringers like devin peterson just to try to win another title.

  6. It’s called recruiting, Comman. You’ll find out that the best teams do it. You sell the recruit and there family on your facilities, your coaching staff, their future teammates, the goal of winning individual and team National Championships, academics/opportunities for future employment, maturing and growing into the right type of person, ect. No one seemed to care when Jim Miller first recruited individuals to buy into what his vision of what Wartburg wrestling could be. They had no trash talking at that point. Only once the athletes, coaches, and community/parents/fans bought into that vision and the results came to fruition did the “outside world” start to sling insults and try to ruin Wartburg’s reputation. Coach Keller, Coach Ortner and staff have just continued to build on the foundation laid by Coach Miller.

  7. It’s admirable how defensive these guys are of the program…Funny though you don’t see them defending the money statements in a detailed manner. Answer me this Wartburgers: How many kids in this years upcoming class are paying full tuition? You don’t “sell the recruit and their families”…You buy them! Keep kidding yourselves though..haha

  8. My son who wrestled for Wartburg was recruited by all of the Iowa conference schools. What we learned during the process of him choosing a school was that full tuition at these schools is misleading. They all have money to give to all students. In fact several schools gave an initial offer of between 5,000 and 10,000 just for filling out the application for admission and this was for all potential students not just athletes. Then the financial package went up depending on high school gpa and act score. Most of these schools tell everyone that they can often get the tuition down to what the state schools tuition is. They can do this because of significant endowments. Yes, Wartburg puts a lot of their money towards athletics but in our experience many of these schools do the same. My son actually had one financial package that was a better deal than Wartburg’s offer. He also had three coaches tell him that they thought they would be able to match Wartburg’s. He ultimately went with Wartburg because he liked Wartburg the best. Even though he knew there was a chance he would never be a starter he knew he would get better by going there and have a chance to win titles. This does, probably give private schools a leg up but I am not sure that the public d3 schools couldn’t do the same thing if they chose to.

  9. Wartburg #1, although I complain, I won’t deny any of the Wartburg coaches aren’t great. They are fantastic. Many great wrestlers have come through. Landon Williams is a great example of a great four year Wartburg guy.
