Top 30 Teams
#4 Cortland
#12 Ithaca
#25 Springfield and Roger Williams (tie)

Once again, Cortland and Ithaca provide a lot of the top level talent in the Northeast Region, but Springfield and Roger Williams both have strong top to bottom teams, while Johnson & Wales has a few excellent individuals that will vie for All-American awards.

The top wrestler here is Bobby Dierna of Cortland at 149. He finished 3rd in a very tough weight last year, and has handled all DIII competition in an abbreviated season on his way to a #1 ranking. 157 could be the best weight, with a pair of All-Americans including last year’s NCAA champion Biscaha at #10 and Lopez of Williams just outside the top ten. Ahead of both them is #9 Desilets of Johnson & Wales who is undefeated at 157 this year and beat both Biscaha and Lopez this year. Biscaha shocked everyone with his unseeded run to the championship last year and hopes for a repeat performance. 157 gets some competition from 174 this year, as #4 Puca was an All-American a year ago, and Colin Lenhardt, a 184 placewinner in 2013, made a late drop to 174 this season to make things very interesting. Add Ithaca’s Toribio, who has been ranked this year, into the mix, and 174 is looking quite good.

A pair of Cortland wrestlers to watch are #3 Bistis at 141 and #3 Giaramita at 197. Both were All-Americans in 2012 and are situated well to repeat the feat after a year off the podium. #8 Giacolone will challenge Bistis at 141, while Ayen of Springfield and 2013 NCAA qualifier Parcel or Roger Williams will make a run at Giaramita. Roometua of Wesleyan qualified at 197 last year as well, but he has fallen completely out of the d3wrestle.com Rankings this season.

A last interesting note is that with Casper apparently not entered at 125, all three qualifiers from the Northeast at that weight will be wrestlers who do not appear anywhere in the last d3wrestle.com Rankings.

  1. and u will once again have 3-4 wrestlers at 125lbs from the east that will sitting home watching kids from this region go 2 the ncaa tourny who dont even appear in ur top 26 at the weight (laughable) 🙂 thats why we need 2 change the format 2 that of which resembles the way that div1 does theres… how about doing something right div3???

  2. Wartburg, Whitewater, and Messiah are the top 3 ranked teams in the nation. They are each in tougher regions than the east region. I’ve spoken with all three of their coaches. None of them are complaining. The best teams/wrestlers find a way- no excuses.

  3. bravo, bravo, bravo 🙂 im happy 4u… was giving my opinion.. i happen 2 not like it & obviously u do… we share different opinions.. (dont figure) 🙂 lol… fancy that, people having different opinions on a site… (WOW) WHO WOULD HAVE EVER THOUGHT SUCH A THING COULD HAPPEN 🙂

  4. if ur in favoer of kids with 30 plus wins & ranked in the top 15 all yr long sitting at home while wrestlers with LESS TALENT WITH LOSING RECORDS GO, well then we can agree 2 disagree then 🙂

  5. Don’t like it and I will be part of the effort to see some change in the system/alignment in the off season. Right now, I’m not making any excuses…too much work to do.

  6. would b the 1st to admit that there is no perfect system & that ur always going 2 have some people complain no matter wat, but come on people, wen something is so obviously wrong with the system u currently have u must do everything possible 2 make it right as well as fair… this alignment of the regions is even close 2 being right or fair… has anyone that configured this bogus setup in the 1st place ever looked at a map… GEOGRAPHICALLY ITS ALL WRONG 🙂 some of these schools r within 15 miles of each other & arent even in the same regions 4 crying out loud.. its not rocket science is all im saying 🙂 i cant remember the last time ive attended a div1 ncaa wrestling championship & seen any wrestlers with losing records as i consisteently see here at the div 3 level (yr in & yr out) i think it makes all of u decision makers look silly wen this continually happens yr after yr…

  7. (ABOUT THE NCAA DIV1 COACHES PANEL) wrestlers in each weight class will b measured by winninig percentage, rating percentage index(rpi) & coaches rankings 2 earn spots in their qualifying tournaments 4 the 2014 ncaa div1 wrestling championships.. the coaches rankings r compiled by a vote of coaches representing each qualifying tournament… for ranking purposes, coaches may only consider a wrestler that has been designated as a starter at a respective weight class.. in order 2 b eligible 4 the rankings, wrestlers must have participated in at least 5 matches against div1 opponents in the weight class & have wrestled within the last 30 days… (PERHAPS IF DIV 3 FOLLOWED THIS FORMAT THAT CLEARLY WORKS IN DIV1, PERHAPS THEY WOULD GET THE BEST WRESTLERS HERE) 🙂

  8. Ken there is no way that you constantly see wrestlers with losing records at nationals. that’s absurd
